Meet the founder

Hi, I’m Mel - founder of Kaizen Hospitality Workwear. I’ve been working in kitchens for close to 20 years but it’s always been in the back of my mind that I would like to one day step out of the kitchen and start a hospitality workwear brand.

In 2020 I decided to get serious about pursuing this dream so I employed the services of Suzanne Bobsien - a fashion and textile designer with over 25 years experience in the fashion industry. Suzanne mentored me from December 2020 - Jan 2022 and taught me so much about the fashion industry. I was able to share with Suzanne a chefs perspective of what we need in workwear and Suzanne was able to help me bring it to life.

The Japanese word ‘kaizen’ is about making small continuous improvements over time and it’s the number one value of this company. Personally I’ll be looking to constantly up skill and grow alongside the business. For the business as a whole the Kaizen principle can be applied across the board, small improvements can always be made in every area from product development to customer service procedures.

As a chef myself I know that chefs do their best work when they feel confident and comfortable - this will always be top of mind when designing garments for Kaizen.

Sustainability is very important to me, while I don’t think that it’s possible for any company to be 100% sustainable, it definitely is possible to come very close. I would rather have no business at all than to have a business and know that it’s harming people or the planet in some way.

Thank you for following the journey, I look forward to sharing the process with you.
